The Wessex Heavy Horse Society promotes the heavy horse across the Wessex region. The Society is open to all who own, work with or just admire heavy horses of all breeds.
The Wessex Heavy Horse Society started life as a Hiring Society and held an Annual Show and Auction at Shaftesbury Livestock Market for many years. The Society moved its annual Show to the Turnpike Showground in 2004, and has gone from strength to strength, attracting around 50 heavy horses on Show Day. This year’s Show takes place on the 22nd September 2024, and will include classes for ridden and driven horses, as well as in-hand and harness classes and a Young Handler’s class.
The Society also organises events for Members and friends throughout the year, including an Annual Dinner, open days and social events such as Race Nights. Membership is open to all who are interested in heavy horses and there is no need to own a heavy horse to join.
The show will include classes for ridden and driven horses, as well as in-hand and harness classes and a Young Handler’s class.
To be held on Sunday 22nd September at the Turnpike Showground (between Gillingham and Shaftesbury) Dorset SP7 9PL.
